Canceling your credit card to get out of a membership?

So I belong to life time fitness and I want to cancel my account I called today to give 30 day notice and they said I would still be charged for July and august... It is a month to month deal and I never gave out my social or anything. If I just send my notice I want it canceled and then cancel my credit card will this hurt my credit? Or will it just go away eventually?
